Summary

With the "Online Update" function, you can install the current FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box quickly and easily. If no "Online Update" is possible, for example, because the FRITZ!Box is not connected to the Internet, you can perform a manual update.

Description

Step 1: Auto-Update

If you activate the option "Inform about new FRITZ!OS versions and install new versions automatically" under "System > Update > Auto-Update" in the user interface, future updates will be installed automatically.

  1. Click on "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ! box.

  2. Click on "Update" in the "System".

  3. Click on the button "Search for new FRITZ!OS".

  4. Click on the "Start update now" button.

Step 2: Manual FRITZ!OS Update

With the online update function, you can install the current FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box quickly and easily. However, in some cases, no online update is possible, for example, if the FRITZ!Box is not connected to the Internet. In this case, carry out a manual update.

  • Download FRITZ!OS file:

  1. Call ftp.avm.de/fritzbox/ in the Internet browser.

  2. Change to the folder of your FRITZ!Box model, then to the subfolder "germany" and then to the folder "fritz.os".

Note:The complete model name of your FRITZ!Box can be found in the user interface on the "Overview" page and on the bottom of the device.

  3. Download the file with the extension ".image" to your computer.

  • Install the current FRITZ!OS:

  1. Click on "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ! box.

Step 3: FRITZ!OS Update not possible: Error message after selecting the FRITZ!OS file

The update for the FRITZ! box cannot be installed. After selecting the file in the FRITZ!Box user interface, one of the following error messages is displayed:

"The update failed: The specified file does not contain a FRITZ!OS released by AVM for this device."
"The update failed. An unspecified error occurred during the update."
  • Download FRITZ!OS file again:

  1. Call ftp.avm.de/fritzbox/ in the Internet browser.

  2. Change to the folder of your FRITZ! box model, then to the subfolder "Austria" and then to the folder "fritz.os".
