Requirements/Restrictions

  • TL-WR802N to be set up
  • Computer connected exclusively to the TL-WR802N
  • Current web browser

 ➤ Affected products: TL-WR802N

  • TP-Link_300Mbps_Wireless_Router_Power

Preparations

Step 1: Access data for user interface

IP address:   192.168.0.1 (or http://tplinkwifi.net)

Username:     admin

Password:     admin

Step 2: Preconfigured WLAN settings

SSID:        begins with TP-LINK_

Password:    on a sticker on the housing of the router

Step 3: Access to user interface

Access to the user interface is necessary, for example, if you want to change the configuration of the router. With the TL-WR802N from TP-LINK, you must perform the following steps in sequence to access the user interface:

 1. Putting the router into operation

 2. Connect the terminal device to the router via WLAN [Note: Make sure that the WLAN is activated on your router] or a network cable

 3. Open web browser

 4. Enter the IP address or URL in the address line and confirm with the Enter key

 5. Enter your username and password in the open user interface and confirm again

Step 4: Restore default settings

Restoring the default settings is helpful, for example, if you have changed and forgotten the user interface access data. Please note, however, that not only settings such as IP address, user name or password, but all configurations you have made will be reset to the factory settings.

 ➤ Perform hardware reset:

To restore the default settings of the TP-LINK TL-WR802N, you must perform the following steps:

 1. Putting the router into operation

 2. Press the reset button for at least 5 seconds

 3. Device restarts automatically

 4. Restoration of the default settings has been performed

 ➤ Perform software reset:

With the TP-LINK TL-WR802N, the factory settings can be restored via the installed software. To do this, log in to the router's user interface with your login data and follow the steps described in the user manual. After you have successfully completed the above steps, the configuration of the router has been reset to the factory defaults. If you now want to log in to the user interface, you must use the default login data.

Step 5: Quick Setup - Operation Mode

 ➤ Overview:

  • Quick_Setup-Operation-Mode

1. Wireless Router (Default): In this mode, the device enables multiple users to share the Internet connection via ADSL/Cable Modem.
The LAN devices share the same IP from ISP through Wireless port. While connecting to Internet, the LAN/WAN Ethernet port works
as a WAN port at Wireless Router mode.

Note: Share Internet connection from an Ethernet cable. For example, hotel room, small office...

2. Hotspot Router: In this mode, the device enables multiple users to share Internet connection from WISP. The LAN port devices share the same IP
from WISP through Wireless port. While connecting to WISP, the Wireless port works as a WAN port.
The Ethernet port acts as a LAN port.

Note: Share Internet connection anywhere public Wi-Fi exists. For example: hotel room, trade show, ...

3. Access Point: In this mode, this device can be connected to a wired network and transform the wired access into wireless that multiple devices
can share together, especially for a home, office or hotel where only wired network is available.

Note: Set up Wi-Fi on an existing wired network

4. Range Extender: In this mode, this device can copy and reinforce the existing wireless signal to extend the coverage of the signal, especially
for a large space to eliminate signal-blind corners.

Note: Extend the range of an existing Wi-Fi

5. Client: In this mode, this device can be connected to another device via Ethernet port and act as an adapter to grant your wired devices access
to a wireless network, especially for a Smart TV, Media Player, or game console only with an Ethernet port.

Note: Act as a "Wireless Adapter" to connect your wired devices(e.g.Blu-ray player, smart TV) to existing Wi-Fi

Set up Operation Mode: Client

1. Log on to the configuration page of the nano router.

2. You are in Quick Setup and Click on Next. See the figure below.

  • Quick-Setup

3. Select the Client mode and then click Next.

  • Quick-Setup-Client

4. The Nano Router searches all available WLANs. Select your WLAN in the window and click Next. Please note that the signal display for your
WLAN should ideally be more than 25dB.

  • Quick-Setup-Client-AP-List

5. Configure Wireless Settings

  • Quick-Setup-Client-Wireless-Settings

6. Perform the following steps under Network Settings:

You can configure the IP parameters of LAN on this page.

➤ Type: Choosing Smart IP to get IP address from remoter DHCP server, or choosing Static IP to config IP address manually.

➤ IP Address: Enter the IP address of your system in dotted-decimal notation (factory default:).

➤ Subnet Mask: An address code that determines the size of the network. Normally 255.255.255.0 is used as the subnet mask.

➤ DHCP Server: Enable or Disable the server. If you chose Smart IP type, the selection will be disabled. If you disable the Server, you must have
another DHCP server within your network or else you must configure the IP address of the computer manually.
Note: If you change the IP address, you must use the new IP address to login the system.

➤ Variant 1: If you use Smart IP (DHCP) as type, the nano router gets an IP address from the main router.

  • Quick-Setup-Client-DHCP

➤ Variant 2: Assign your nano router a fixed IP address.

  • Quick-Setup-Client-Static-IP

➤ Select Static IP as the type

➤ Change the IP address of the nano router to match the subnet of your main router (example: Your main router has the IP address 192.168.2.1.
In this case, you can give your nano router the IP address 192.168.2.254)

➤ Disable the DHCP server (select "Disable"), then click Next.

7. Check the nano router settings, then click Reboot.

  • Quick-Setup-Client-Status

8. Connect the Nano Router configured as a client to your client (end device) via LAN port.
